Flameproof Heaters

If you work in a sector that handles potentially flammable, or even explosive substances, it’s vital you have safe working conditions and equipment in place.

Since the 1970s, the British Standards Institute (BSI) has had legislation in place that outlines the safety provisions that must be in place in such environments. Here at Hedin Heaters, not only will we provide you with flameproof heaters that are suitable for your organisation’s requirements, but we’ll also help ensure you comply with all the necessary legal responsibilities, as detailed in BS EN IEC 60079-7:2015.

ATEX and IECEx Heaters

All of our flameproof heaters comply with ATEX and IECEx hazardous area equipment. Plus, our products are designed in such a way that the elements are fitted into a mounting flange with flameproof terminals. The flameproof terminal enclosure can be ‘stood-off’ by a distance which will allow air to circulate freely between the terminal enclosure and the mounting flange. The operating temperature of the terminals enclosure determines this distance.

Another element of the certification process is the T ratings. Products are awarded a T rating depending on the maximum surface temperature they’re allowed to reach. These are:

  • T1 – 450°C
  • T2 – 300°C
  • T3 – 200°C
  • T4 – 135°C
  • T5 – 100°C
  • T6 – 85°C

Screwed immersion heaters are of standard construction, comprising of one, two or three elements mounted into a screwed boss and fitted with a cast iron certified flameproof terminal enclosure which incorporates an adjustable thermostat and/or safety cut-out device. The elements may be manufactured from a variety of materials, and the wattage rating is determined by the customers specification application. Units are available for either single or three phase operation.
